Rev. Peter Jackson

Rev Peter Jackson has been Minister for Otaki-Waikanae Presbyterian parish since December 2014

Coming from South Africa, Peter graduated from Rhodes University and was ordained into the Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa in 1986.

He came to New Zealand in 2008 and initially practised his other talent as a fully qualified and experienced chef. But then, in his own words, “God called me back into full time ministry.” He answered the call, firstly to Stated Supply in Tawa and then to a multi-congregational parish district in the South Island.

Peter is an exegetical preacher and teacher; his Bible Study sessions in both Waikanae and Otaki are popular and often lead to lively discussion and debate on various levels. With extensive experience ministering to the poor, homeless, drug and alcohol dependent and mental health sufferers in South Africa and overseas, Peter has a personal understanding of the issues facing communities today.

When he has time, Peter says he enjoys working in his garden or relaxing with a blank canvas and paintbrush in his hand listening to music. He has a great love of nature and the outdoors, and misses the opportunities he used to have - with less hectic schedules - of horse riding and dinghy sailing but hopes to be able to pursue the latter in the summer.

Peter says he is always available for personal spiritual guidance when needed, by appointment.
